Winter shares are sold out!
Fisheye Farms Winter 2020-2021 CSA
CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture and is a way for people to "buy into" the farm for the season with a share. CSAs are designed for both the members and farmers to benefit from the bounty of different parts of the season.
We are happy to announce our first Winter CSA! Every other week from November until the end of February, CSA members will receive boxes of spinach, kale, carrots, turnips, radishes, micro greens, and more! For $300, or about $38 a week, you can continue eating nutrient dense vegetables through the coldest times of the year. The pick up day will be Fridays from 3-6pm in our greenhouse at 4423 15th Street on the following dates:
No Pick Up on January 1st
Each member will receive a weekly update with information about what is in your share, recipes, and “field notes” from the farm.
There are a few things to consider about becoming a Winter CSA member:
- We can only provide shares every other week because of how slowly plants grow during the winter time. This schedule gives us some flexibility around produce availability and planning around extreme weather conditions.
- There is a month off from mid December to mid January. This is the time with the least amount of daylight hours and thus the slowest amount of growth. It’s also the holiday season, so a time when the farmers want some rest and time with loved ones.
- Winter farming is a very challenging but rewarding venture. We have to be careful of frozen pipes while cleaning vegetables, frozen fingers, shoveling our way into hoop houses and caterpillar tunnels, and harvesting from nearly frozen ground. This requires our Winter CSA members to be extra understanding if a crop changes last minute or the carrots aren’t very clean because we accidentally froze our hoses. But we do know you will be blown away by the sweetness of a fresh carrot or spinach in the dead of winter!
- Deliveries will be available and go out at the same time as pick up.
